Katie Boulter Falls to Katerina Siniakova in Japan Open Semi-Finals as Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz Reach Finals
Katie Boulter's strong run at the Japan Open ends in the semi-finals against Katerina Siniakova, while Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz advance to their respective finals.

Boulter's Osaka Run Ends Against Siniakova
Katie Boulter saw her impressive run at the Japan Open come to a halt in the semi-finals, suffering a straight-sets defeat to Czech veteran Katerina Siniakova. Despite the 6-1 6-4 loss in Osaka, Boulter can take considerable confidence from a strong week that saw her reach her third WTA semi-final of the 2026 season and reclaim her status as the British No 1 from Sonay Kartal.
Siniakova seized the momentum early, claiming the opening five games before Boulter dug deep to save a set point and avoid a bagel. The British player offered more resistance in the second set, briefly sparking hopes of a comeback after breaking her opponent, but Siniakova expertly managed her lead and served out the match cleanly.
With the victory, the world No 86 advances to the tournament showpiece, where she will face America's Ashlyn Krueger. Krueger earned her spot in Sunday's final after overcoming fellow American and top seed Ann Li in a tense three-set battle.
Rybakina and Fritz Advance to Title Clashes Elsewhere
At the Ningbo Open, defending champion Elena Rybakina kept her title defense alive with a hard-fought 6-3 7-5 victory over Diana Shnaider. The Australian and US Open champion admitted to struggles on her serve during a lengthy opening set, but ultimately showed her championship pedigree to set up a final showdown against Leylah Fernandez.
Meanwhile, in the men's circuit at the Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in Lyon, Taylor Fritz booked his place in his fifth ATP Tour final of the year. The American secured a hard-earned 6-3 7-5 win over compatriot Tommy Paul, neutralizing break threats in the closing stages before sealing the match with a commanding love game. Fritz awaits the winner of the all-Italian semi-final between top seed Flavio Cobolli and Lorenzo Musetti.
Basel and Vienna Draws Take Shape
Attention on the tennis calendar is already shifting to upcoming indoor tournaments. At the Swiss Indoors Basel, Novak Djokovic is set to make his return as he targets crucial points for an ATP Finals qualification spot. Djokovic faces Ugo Humbert in a challenging opening-round fixture, with a potential semi-final meeting against top seed and former finalist Ben Shelton looming on the horizon. Veteran Stan Wawrinka has also been handed a stern test, paired against eighth seed Jiri Lehecka.
Over at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Carlos Alcaraz prepares to face US Open semi-finalist Karen Khachanov, while top seed Alexander Zverev enters the draw with an opportunity to claim the world No 1 ranking for the first time in his career.
